Comparison of the Chernobyl and Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants Accidents and their Consequences

چکیده
This work compares the radioactive consequences due to the Chernobyl and Fukushima NPP accidents. Due to non-homogeneous features of the fallouts of radioactive isotopes in the both cases the comparison of radioactive contamination density was compared for similar administrative units – in Russia (Bryansk region, Novozibkov subregion) and in Japan (Fukushima prefecture, Namie municipality). We also estimated and compared both external and internal radiation doses for population during the acute accidental period – the first year. This work also considers the long-term dynamics of exposure doses in Russia which illustrate the Russian experience on countermeasures to protect the population.

Recent Fukushima nuclear detonation, Chernobyl nuclear fallout, three mile island nuclear accident and atomic bomb explosion – rethinking the effects of nuclear radiations over human health
Background: The earlier Atomic Bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and three worth mentioning nuclear accidents - detonation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Chernobyl nuclear fallout and an accident at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant have made us more worried about the secure exploitation of nuclear energy. The central focus of this paper is to review radiation-mediated health e...
متن کاملNuclear denial: From Hiroshima to Fukushima
Governments and the nuclear power industry have a strong interest in playing down the harmful effects of radiation from atomic weapons and nuclear power plants. Over the years, some scientists have supported the view that low levels of radiation are not harmful, while other scientists have held that all radiation is harmful. The author examines the radiation effects of nuclear bombs dropped on ...

Copyright © 2011 Massachusetts Medical Society. On March 11, 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Japan. The total number of people who died in the earthquake and the tsunami that it generated is still being assessed, but the official estimation already exceeds 14,000.1 The natural disaster also caused substantial damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the con...
متن کامل[Comparative analysis of the radionuclide composition in fallout after the Chernobyl and the Fukushima accidents].
The nuclear accident occurred at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) (March 11, 2011) similarly to the accident at the Chernobyl NPP (April 26, 1986) is related to the level 7 of the INES. It is of interest to make an analysis of the radionuclide composition of the fallout following the both accidents. The results of the spectrometric measurements were used in that comparative analysis...

Major and severe accidents have occurred three times in nuclear power plants (NPPs), at Three Mile Island (USA, 1979), Chernobyl (former USSR, 1986) and Fukushima (Japan, 2011). Research on the causes, dynamics, and consequences of these mishaps has been performed in a few laboratories worldwide in the last three decades. Common goals of such research activities are: the prevention of these kin...
